Applehead Chihuahua
An Applehead Chihuahua actually has a mild form of
hydrocephalus. While some people might like the look they
are actually inbreeding a medical condition.
Hydrocephalus happens when the fluid produced by certain
cells of the brain is not reabsorbed fast enough.
The pressure from this liquid compresses the brain and
expands the skull. This results in a decreased brain mass
and an enlarged skull.
Continuing to breed these dogs can be very dangerous to
their health and their longevity.
If you do want a Chihuahua, buy one from a reputable dealer
that breeds dogs according to the American Kennel Club
standard.
It is actually considered unethical for a breeder to
advertise with the term Applehead. This also goes for the
terms “teacup” as well.
You are going to spend hundreds of dollars on a dog, why not
buy a healthy one that you know has a very reasonable chance of
living a long and healthy life, with minimal health
complications.
Keep all these things in mind if you want an
Applehead Chihuahua.
