Chihuahua Personality
Small Dog But A Big Personality
A Chihuahua personality might be in
a small dog, but it is pretty big. Chihuahuas are fiercely
loyal to there owners and normally only accept other Chihuahuas
as companions, rejecting other breeds of dogs.
Always alert and playful, these dogs burns up energy faster
than most other breeds, so they actually need more food per
pound of body weight. They need about twenty percent more food
per body weight than other dogs, which is somewhat of a
problem, because these dogs are known as picky eaters. In fact,
some of these puppies sometimes must be force fed.
The Chihuahua personality is easily trained, since they are
quick and have an exceptional memory. Having excellent visual
perception and hearing, the Chihuahua must be considered as
being one of the healthiest of all breeds.
Listed among the few health problems encountered with the
Chihuahua, is the fact that since it is the world's smallest
dog, he is always close to drafts which sweep across the floor
surfaces in summer and winter alike. So when sleeping, the
Chihuahua should always be protected from these drafts.
The Chihuahua is a very hardy little dog, although they may
not look like it. Since they come from an area along the
Mexican border, they had to be strong to survive. Summers
expose that area to blistering heat, and winter nights have
seen temperatures drop to below freezing.
Even in cold climates like Canada, this breed has been known
to do quite well. But remember to not expose your dog to
temperature extremes if they are not acclimated.
The lifespan of the Chihuahua varies, but records show one
to have lived to be twenty-two years old, although the majority
only live to their early teens.
Although their history is often a mystery that is hotly
debated, this breed is one of America's favorite, largely due
to the Chihuahua personality.
