Long Haired Chihuahuas

Long haired Chihuahuas and short haired Chihuahuas are the only two recognized types of Chihuahuas. Long haired Chihuahuas have a sleek but fluffy appearance because of fine guard hairs and an undercoat. These dogs have longer hair on the ears, chest, tail, legs, and stomach.

Grooming:

These dogs actually need very little grooming or trimming. In fact it can take several years for the coat to actually reach full length. These dogs do shed, but actually shed less than short haired Chihuahuas.

Brushing:

Should be brushed a minimum at least once a week. Twice is best.

Colors:

Bland, white, fawn, black and tan, patched, and a few other variations.

Price:

$400 to $900

These are indoor dogs. If you do take them outside make sure you keep them in a clean dry area otherwise their coat can get dirty.

Health and History:

Long haired Chihuahuas share the same history and health problems that short haired Chihuahuas experience. The only real difference is the length of the coat.
