Chihuahua Food
Tips For Choosing Great Chihuahua Food
Chihuahua food is different for different stages of your
Chihuahuas life. If you are careful in feeding your Chihuahua
obesity should not be a problem.
If you just received a puppy, feed it according the
breeder's instructions. Normally puppies are fed more
frequently than adults.
Young and adult Chihuahuas should only be fed twice a day
for 15 minutes at a time. Do not leave food out for them all
the time otherwise they will become obese. Also by only feeding
them for a set amount of time a more dominant dog cannot steal
as much food from less dominant dogs.
You should also be giving a dry Chihuahua food, wet and soft
Chihuahua food only leads to dental problems like gingivitis
and plaque build up. Dry Chihuahua food is the healthiest way
to go and it is often times less calories than the wet or
canned variety.
You should be feeding a premium brand of dog food. When you
go to buy a bag of dog food there are several things to look
for on the label but the most important one is the primary
ingredient in the Chihuahua food. The first ingredient listed
on the food label is the primary ingredient. That ingredient
should be some type of meat, whether chicken or beef. If the
first ingredient is some type of grain, like corn or wheat,
keep looking for a different brand.
Avoid giving treats as much as possible to your Chihuahua.
Believe it or not but it is a fact that most dog owners spend
more money on treats than on nutritious dog food. DonÕt be one
of those dog owners.
If you are feeding a premium dog food your dogs should not
need any treats. You should only give them for dog training
purposes.
Work closely with your veterinarian in monitoring the weight
of your Chihuahua. Obesity is a large problem in dogs and can
lead to lots of problem. Type II diabetes is on the rise
directly because of obesity in dogs which is preventable.
Obesity is also hard on their little joints. Although your
fat Chihuahua may seem small to you, their little joints were
only designed to carry so much weight, and also the force of
that excess weight is magnified when that dog is jumping round
off the furniture.
In summary Chihuahua food should be dry, nutritious, and
only fed twice a day. Get a baby weight scale and weight your
pet once a month.
