Chihuahua Puppy Care
Chihuahua Puppy Care Tips
Chihuahua puppy care can be a fun and exciting time for you
and your new puppy. By making yourself as knowledgeable as
possible about what is needed in terms of supplies and
vaccination shots is important.
Here are some Chihuahua puppy care tips that might be
helpful
1. Don't get a crate that is too large. Putting your puppy
in a crate that is too large will defeat the purpose of crate
training.
2.Use a heavy ceramic bowl for the water dish. Puppies love
to play with their water bowls, so having a dish that is too
heavy to tip over really helps.
3.The first set of puppy shots is normally given between 6-8
weeks and are repeated every 3-4 weeks until the puppy is 16
weeks old. The shots are given this way in order to protect the
puppy from the time between weaning to until the time that the
puppies own immune system can become fully functional.
4. The shots are called DHPP vaccinations. This stands for
Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus.
5.Make sure your puppy is also dewormed. Usually a pill is
given when the puppy gets each series of shots.
6.Rabies vaccination is given at 4 months of age and then
repeated at one year. Then the rabies shot is then required to
be given every three years as required by law in most
areas.
7.Make sure you get your puppy spayed or neutered. If you
have your female puppy spayed before the first heat you can
reduce the chances of mammary cancer significantly. If you wait
until after the first 3 heat cycles the chances of mammary
cancer go up tremendously.
Chihuahua puppy care is easy if you know where to turn for
guidance or if you have done it before. The first several
months of life are critical for your new pet and it is vital
that the right vaccines are given in the proper sequence. Ask
your veterinarian or breeder if you need more Chihuahua
puppy care tips.
