Chihuahua safety, many people over look how dangerous their
house really is. Chihuahua proofing your home consists of a few
steps to get started and then some constant vigilance. Although
it may look safe, your house could be full of dangers for your
Chihuahua puppy.

1. Survey your house to start your
Chihuahua safety program. Look for possible dangerous areas.
Over time many of use donÕt realize all the possible dangers
there are because we see our house every day. Try to look
around your house from a fresh perspective; one of a

2. Look for small objects that are easily
swollen. If a dog can get it in its mouth it can swallow it.

From tennis balls, pantyhose, toys, strings, needles, etc. Keep
your house picked up and neat.
3. In the bathroom keep the toilet lid down
if you have chemicals in them.
4. Conceal electrical cords.
5. Put away string or sewing kits.
6. Wrap electrical cords in thick tape or aluminum
foil.
7. Keep chemicals and household cleaners
locked up or behind a closed cabinet doors. Chihuahuas can be
very good at pawing open a cabinet door.
8. In the garage make sure all rodent bait
traps are not reachable, antifreeze is locked up or properly
sealed, and all chemicals are stored out of reach.
9. In the yard, again look out for lawn
chemicals that are safe for pets to use on your lawn.
One of the greatest ways to save money on vet bills is to
pet proof your house. To remove a foreign object for your dogÕs
intestine could cost over $2000 dollars
easily. If you are worried about potential vet bills start pet
proofing your house.
Also keep emergency pet numbers on your refrigerator. The
number for poison control, your veterinarian, etc.
If you have small children explain to them what the dog can
and cannot play with. Also explain to them that sugarless gum
and chocolate can be deadly for Chihuahuas.
By using some common sense you can Chihuahua proof your
house. Make Chihuahua safety a priority.
