Entertaining Your Chihuahua

Entertaining your Chihuahua might seem like a difficult task for new pet owners. Chihuahuas often seem like small children in the amount of time they require and demand.

Providing ways for your Chihuahua to expend excess energy is a must if you want to keep them from tearing your house apart.

Each day make it a point to spend some time with them. Try to make it the same time each day for the same amount of time. Dogs love regimens. If your dog gets in the habit of knowing that it will go for walks at 7am and 7pm than your Chihuahua will likely leave you alone at other times.

When you do schedule time for your dog, make sure you are fully engaged with your dog and try to tire them out, so they donÕt bother you later while you are doing chores.

Playing lots of varied games is a great way of entertaining your Chihuahua. Fetch and retrieve is a great way to get the dog some exercise without tiring you out in the process.

You could also wrestle with the dog, play chase or play tug of war. As you probably know Chihuahuas have a lot of energy and need to be tired out.

Twice daily walks are another great way of entertaining your Chihuahua. To keep your Chihuahua from getting bored on the walks try taking different routes each time.

Not only will they get a good workout but it will keep their minds and nose active exploring new neighborhoods.

If possible try to find an area where you can let your dog off leash so it can run on its own and have lots of fun. But only let your dog off the leash if it follows your commands of stop and come properly.

Also only let your dog off the leash in an area where it is legal and it is safe to do so. You donÕt want your dog running into the street or getting into a fight with other dogs.

Keeping a variety of toys available to play with is another easy way for entertaining your Chihuahua. To keep your Chihuahua from getting bored with the toys, rotate them every week or so.

To do this simply only give access to a few toys a week and keep the others locked up. Then when you rotate the toys, it will be like getting news toys for your dog.

Getting another Chihuahua is another way of entertaining your Chihuahua but should only be done after you have accepted financial responsibility for an additional dog.
