Getting Another Chihuahua
Thinking of Getting Another Chihuahua?
Getting another Chihuahua and introducing it into your home
with other Chihuahuas is fairly easy thing to do. Chihuahuas
get along great with other Chihuahuas which is usually not seen
in other breeds.
Before you get another Chihuahua you have to be sure that
you have the time and resources to properly care for another
dog. Dogs need a lot of time and love. They also need someone
to pay for food and medical expenses.
You should only be getting another Chihuahua if you feel you
can handle the added responsibility.
Introducing a new Chihuahua into your other Chihuahuas is a
fairly easy process. But you must monitor them for the first
couple of days just to be sure there are no problems.
When the two dogs meet there is usually some sizing each
other up. Then will come the sniffing. They will usually be
sniffing each other bodies because they will have different
smells.
The new dog will slowly acquire the smell of the house and
the other dogs in a few days. You can speed this process up if
you take the dog bed or blanket and rub it on it. This will
help to transfer the scent quicker.
Also to prevent any accidental pregnancies make sure your
dogs are spayed or neutered. Not only will this prevent
pregnancy, but it will also make the pets healthier in the long
run.
If possible get your new Chihuahua from the same breeder you
got your original dog from. This way you know the health status
of your dogs are the same and you will not be introducing any
possible diseases into your home.
Although there might be some fighting at the beginning, you
will see that after getting another Chihuahua that they will
get along great in no time.
