How Much Attention Does Your Chihuahua Need?
Chihuahuas seem to require a lot more time and attention
than other breeds of dogs. Although they can be very loyal,
often times it seems they need as much attention as children,
and will often be as demanding of it.
The amount of attention your Chihuahua needs is usually
based on their personality. Are they submissive or dominant?
Independent or dependent? For most Chihuahuas more attention is
usually better for them.
Most people usually spoil their Chihuahuas rotten in the end
anyways. It is rare that a Chihuahua allows its owner to ignore
them. If they feel they are not getting enough attention from
you they will certainly let you know.
Normally giving your dog lots of attention is fine, but what
about if you suddenly have a more demanding work schedule, a
new baby, or an adult parent you have to take care of? Your dog
could start acting out with behavior problems.
One way to prevent this from happen is to create a routine.
Dogs love routines. If your dog knows you will give it your
full attention from 7 to 8 oclock then it will likely leave you
alone the rest of the time so you can get your chores done.
Set a precedent early on in your relationship so your
Chihuahua knows what are the limits on your time. As the pack
leader you have to set the rules to follow, and your dog must
learn to fall in line.
If your Chihuahua keeps on bothering you for attention try
to give them more exercise to wear them out. Take them for a
walk, play tug o war or go fetch. Maybe your dog needs more
toys to play with.
As a last resort you could also consider getting another
Chihuahua. But only do this as a last resort because remember
you are assuming financial responsibility for each new pet you
get.
